The concept of a paper-based
Internet directory delivered free to every home was conceived by Elaine King in
May 2000. After carrying out market research into the concept, which highlighted
facts such as
8 million hours a week are wasted fruitlessly searching on-line and that 63% of users do not find what it is they are looking
for when using a search engine Elaine set about delivering this project in October
2000.
A small senior management team was established to test out the supply chain possibilities
and consider the economics of the proposal. This has led to a professional supply
chain whereby the directories are printed by one of the top European directory printers
(Einsa) and delivered to UK households by a professional company who delivers directories
for BT, Yellow Pages and Thomsons (PDC).
The initial Investment from Paul and Elaine King, co-founders, Dick Olliver, and
a private individual enabled the business to underwrite the publication of the first
regional based directory. This was delivered into the Greater London area during
the Summer of 2001. The company has recently published its second title South East
& Central and this has been distributed in the first quarter of 2002.
The company continues to actively seek further investment to develop the business
through its off-line and on-line strategy. Flickdot will publish its third regional
directory covering the Midlands and East Anglian areas during the second quarter
2002.
Mission Statement
Flickdot's mission is that every
global on-line household should have a copy of its free, paper-based Internet directory,
delivered to the home.
